Welcome to our Projects page. This page will provide you an overview of what we are currently working on.
The Meechim Project
Where it all began—Local Food Sovereignty. The Meechim Project is the flagship project we support in Garden Hill Anishininew Nation. The Meechim Project represents a commitment to local agricultural production in the North. In a region where most produce is flown in at a heavy cost, we focus on the challenging but rewarding work of cultivating the land directly in Garden Hill.
Our involvement centres on managing the farm operations and ensuring the land remains productive. By providing the oversight and agricultural expertise and training needed to run the farm, we help ensure that fresh, fruits & vegetables, and even poultry are grown locally. This project serves as a vital proof-of-concept that northern agriculture is not only possible but essential for reducing reliance on southern supply chains.
Wasagamack Food for All Seasons Project
The "Food for All Seasons" project is rooted in cultural continuity and education. While we do include a gardening component, our primary goal is to bridge the generational gap between Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and the youth.
We provide the tools, supplies, and equipment necessary for a community lead to run land-based workshops throughout the year. These sessions focus on teaching youth how to identify, harvest, and prepare local traditional food options in every season. By supporting these workshops, we are helping to ensure that traditional food knowledge is passed down, empowering the next generation to connect with the land and their history.
The Meechim Market at Dakota Collegiate
Our cafeteria takes a balanced, two-pronged approach to school nutrition. We understand the importance of providing students with the options they enjoy, so we continue to offer a selection of popular snack items.
However, our priority is to elevate the standard menu by integrating fresh, nutritious alternatives into our daily offerings. We have introduced a range of healthy wraps, soups, and healthier snack options as main staples. This strategy ensures that while students still have access to familiar treats, they are consistently encouraged to choose high-quality fuel to power their day
